donatio inter vivos

donatio inter vivos
/downeysh(iy)ow intar vayvows/ A gift between the living. The ordinary kind of gift by one person to another. A term derived from the civil law. A donation inter vivos (between living persons) is an act by which the donor divests himself at present and irrevocably of the thing given in favor of the donee who accepts it. There are three kinds of "donations inter vivos", namely, "gratuitous donations", "onerous donations", and "remunerative donations", the first being based on mere liberality, the second being burdened with charges imposed by the donee, and the third being recompense for services rendered. White v. White, La.App., 7 So.2d 255, 257
